Are you ready to Keto?

Keto is a way of eating that eliminates sugars, grains, starchy vegetables, fast foods and vegetable oils. You can eat  healthy fats/oils, meat, fish, veggies, eggs and unsweetened dairy.

This way of eating is ideal for type 2 diabetics, pre diabetics and those with larger waistlines. The ideal belly measurement for a woman is 35 inches or less. Anything bigger than that you run a higher risk of diabetes, heart disease and hypertension just to name a few. On this woe you will drop some initial lbs fairly quickly plus you can have things like bacon AND the occasional alcoholic beverage. No sugar added to those drinks tho. Don’t be fooled, this woe is very strict! Say bye to potatoes, bread, rice, oatmeal and even most fruits. As a matter of fact, only fruits you can have are berries and that’s in really small portions.

Keto is a way of eating that is high fat moderate protein and low carb. This woe goes against pretty much everything we’ve been taught lol! It rewires your body making your body a fat burner vs a sugar burner. You literally starve your body of carbs giving the body no choice but to burn up the fat you're eating and your stored fat as fuel. This way of eating is very beneficial for weight loss and type 2 diabetics. You can literally drop 10-20lbs in your first month!! Sounds insane right?!  However it comes with some side effects like Keto Flu that can be very unpleasant, good thing it’s possible to avoid by adding electrolytes and if you do happen to get it, it shouldn’t last long. Only a small price to pay for dropping lbs quickly right.
Most people think Keto is just meat and cheese lol.... well it’s not! Keto is all about increasing your fat intake. The healthier the fats the better. When on a Keto way of eating shoot for oily fish like cod and salmon, along with oily veggies like avocado, add in some coconut oil and mct oil just to name a few. Also don’t forget about your veggies. Green leafy veggies are always best like kale, spinach and broccoli. While your at it, go ahead and cook those veggies in butter or olive oil... we’re no longer scared of adding fat! Eat fat to burn fat. Turn your body into a fat burner vs a sugar burner.
This way of eating was originally developed by doctors to treat epilepsy. While observing their patients they noticed the pounds were not only falling off but their health was increasing dramatically. Things like improved good cholesterol and decreased bad cholesterol. They also noticed the effects on their patients' blood sugar.
If your able to stick with this strict, but satisfying woe, you can experience benefits such as:
  1. Weight loss of FAT(not muscle) a lot in stomach area YAY!
  2. Increased energy.
  3. Decreased appetite.
  4. Improved blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.
  5. Increase memory, clarity and less migraines.
  6. Decreased inflammation which helps acne A LOT!
  7. Improved sleep
  8. Improved muscle mass
Some side effects include:
  1. Keto flu- symptoms like fatigue, fever, body aches, headaches, crapiness( no worries it's just your body adjusting from being a sugar burner to a fat burner.) With proper hydration and electrolytes you can skip this all together
  2. Keto breath/ keto funk- some people experience unpleasant body odors when in ketosis. This will typically happen if you're loading up on animal fats and meat only and not getting enough veggies, vitamins and minerals.
  3. Frequent urination
  4. Dizziness & Drowsiness (first few days as your body goes through carb and sugar withdrawal)
  5. Constipation- can be avoided with adequate fiber intake.
  6. Muscle cramps- can be avoided with electrolytes.
